Bring One for the Chipper – Recycle Your Christmas Tree

It’s that time of year again!  As the Christmas festivities come to a close and the decorations come down, it’s time for the tree to vacate your living room.  But rather than taking your tree to the landfill, recycle it!  Through the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation’s (KGBF) ‘Bring One for the Chipper’ program, you can help reduce waste by recycling your tree.

Keep Pickens Beautiful has been participating in the Bring One for the Chipper program for decades, and the number of trees has grown each year.

The Bring One for the Chipper program was started by the KGBF more than 30 years ago, and in that time, more than 6 Million trees have been recycled!  They “encourage communities across the state to participate in the program by collecting Christmas trees and recycling them into mulch or fuel, transforming them into fish or wildlife habitats, or utilizing other appropriate reuse methods.”

The Pickens County Road Department is our Chipper partner, and we’re so grateful.  They chip the trees on site, and then use the mulch for projects in the county.  However, if you live on a pond or lake and would like some trees for fish habitats, please let us know and we’re happy to help.

Bring your tree to the Park-and-Ride lot near the Veterans’ Memorial across from Lee Newton Park by January 6th.

Please make sure that:

  • Your tree is a live tree – no plastic or metal please
  • All decorations have been removed – no lights, ornaments, or tinsel
  • No wreaths with metal frames
  • No bags – if you bag your tree for transport, please un-bag it before dropping it

Thank you for recycling your tree!  Every tree that’s diverted from the landfill helps!
