SUMMARY:New Garden Installation: Talking Rock
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, June 18th to install a brand new Edible Pickens garden in front of the Boxcar Grill and Mary2 Wine Bar (and Talking Rock Brewery). We will spread any extra mulch on the ground to walk on. \n\n\n\nThis is going to be fun! SUMMARY:Learn about River Cane with Dr. Russell Cutts
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever heard of River Cane\, our native “bamboo” that used to cover over 10 million acres across the US? Rivercane is one of four native North American woody grasses in the Arundinaria genus\, which has been unfortunately decimated in recent history\, now covering only 2% of its natural area. We are hosting Dr. Russell Cutts on Tuesday\, July 8th\, to learn about River Cane\, an important wildlife habitat to the ancient\, 400lb Giant Beaver\, and a resource which also holds cultural significance to many Indigenous peoples. He will also be sharing information on how we can revitalize its habitat and save the River Cane species! \n\n\n\nThe talk will be hosted at the Old Mulehouse\, in the back gathering room\, starting at 7pm. This talk will directly follow our monthly Board meeting\, which occurs at 5:30-6:30pm. If you are interested to sit in and listen to all the exciting things KPB is up to\, please come as a guest to our meeting\, and stay for the River Cane talk which follows. We hope to see you there! \n\n\n\nThis is a FREE event.

DESCRIPTION:LEARN HOW TO GROW A NEW IN-GROUND GARDEN\n\n\n\nKPB recently got lots of seeds donated through a program sponsored by the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation\, Home Depot\, and Ferry Morse Seeds.  We are now offering a new educational series to teach you how to grow your own food\, with information on soil choices\, composting\, fertilizing\, plant choice\, container options\, and more.  We are applying for grants to fund this program\, so as funds are available\, we will provide all the materials for your new garden!  You’ll go home with the containers\, soil\, seeds\, and more to begin growing your own fresh food. We received our first grant from the Pickens Community Resource Association\, funded by the sales at The Community Thrift Store. \n\n\n\nFor this specific workshop\, we will focus on building a new in-ground garden. We will show you how to choose the right location\, how to remove what’s currently growing there\, if needed\, how to prep the soil with cardboard\, compost\, mulch\, etc. We will also teach you how to care for this garden and certain plants\, as far as watering\, feeding\, etc. \n\n\n\nNo experience necessary. All ages. This is a FREE EVENT.

SUMMARY:Earth Day On Main
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 4th annual Earth Day on Main celebration! This year\, we will be celebrating right in the parking lot at the KPB Office. Each year this event is a little different depending on our current focuses and programs. This year we will not be including vendors\, and will focus on eco-friendly activities and educational workshops for the whole family! \n\n\n\nWe are also curating a local plant swap\, just dig one up from your yard and swap it with one you might not have from someone else in the community! We will also be celebrating the efforts of all of the Litter-O-Lympics participants with medals and prizes for who collected the most litter in the competition. Help us celebrate their amazing efforts! (It’s not too late to participate if you want to join in the fun\, the competition ends April 18th.) \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in teaching the community something special or maybe have a fun eco-friendly craft you’d like to include\, please contact us!
