It’s Time for the Great American Cleanup

GAC Proclamation Signing 2023

April is Great American Cleanup month – Join Keep Pickens Beautiful as we do good things for our community.  We have activities planned for each weekend in April, including Edible Jasper workshops, Pick-Up Pickens activities, and the 2nd Annual ‘Earth Day on Main’.

The Great American Cleanup is a national program sponsored by Keep America Beautiful.  The GAC is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year as the nation’s largest community improvement program taking place in an estimated 20,000 communities nationwide.

In addition to KPB’s projects and programs, Pickens County residents can take up to 4 tires to the central recycling center (on Appalachian Court) for free during the month of April.

We are expanding our Edible Jasper gardens near our office on April 1.  We will be adding to the gardens in the Pickens Progress parking lot and behind the Kirby Quinton cabin on April 15.  Our Pick-Up Pickens crew will clean up roadside litter on April 8 and 29.  Earth Day on Main is on April 22 – we’re looking for participants and raffle donations, so contact KPB if you want to be a part of the festivities.

Annually, the Great American Cleanup engages more than 500,000 volunteers and participants, whose work returns, on average, more than $100 million in measurable benefits across thousands of participating communities.  Keep America Beautiful believes that people and places are profoundly interconnected.  The GAC is a shining example of how lasting, positive change happens when people work together.

Come help Keep Pickens Beautiful do good things for our community.  Make a difference, meet new friends, and have fun!
