Board members, volunteers, and supporters of Keep Pickens Beautiful gathered January 7th to celebrate last year’s work at the Last Catch restaurant.
“I go other places and we look good here,” President Mary Ann Rentz told the group. The non-profit group, that seeks to promote a clean community, is closing in on the 30-year mark and “we have grown and grown and grown,” said Rentz.
She noted that KPB, originally founded as CCC, is one of the fw groups like theirs still supported by both the local county and city.
Among the key accomplishments of 2019 for KPB:
- More than 500 volunteer hours
- 116 Christmas trees chipped
- 152 miles cleaned by Adopt-A-Road volunteers
- Arranged recycling at JeepFest, the Marble Festival, and Talking Rock Heritage Days
- 900 tires collected and recycled
Rentz said KPB had led the way with the marble sign welcoming visitors to Pickens County on the four-lane and their next project may be a similar sign for Jasper.
Commission Chair Rob Jones and Jasper Mayor Steve Lawrence were on hand to congratulate the group’s work, with Jones saying, “I want to thank the volunteers for a thankless job – especially the Adopt-A-Road volunteers who risk getting run over.”
