Beautification

Working Together To

Keep Pickens County Beautiful

Beautification projects and recognition of efforts throughout the county are a central focus of Keep Pickens Beautiful’s mission. Our Board members and community volunteers help improve the quality of life in Pickens County by promoting litter pick-up, garden improvements, and more!

KPB has sponsored a wide range of beautification projects throughout Pickens County. These include the Marble Monument on the side of 515N, historical murals, landscaping initiatives, and more.

Enjoy the photos below, and visit the Calendar of Events for upcoming beautification projects. Come help us to keep Pickens County beautiful!

Past Beautification Projects

Marble Monument on highway 515 North

September 14, 2005 – Keep Pickens Beautiful dedicated the Marble Monument located at the Georgia Forestry Department at the corner of State Highway 515 and Industrial Roads. The monument recognizes the marble industry and its contribution to Pickens County and the citizens of the north Georgia mountains for over 3 generations.  Our thanks to Georgia Marble/Polycor for their generous donation of a 10 ton block of marble.  Many other people along with City and County employees helped with the erection of the monument.

Murals in Jasper, Talking Rock, and Marble Hill

Under the leadership of Mary Ann Rentz, beautification has taken on many forms in our county. She has been instrumental in the beautiful murals that grace our County in Jasper, Marble Hill, and Talking Rock. Mary Ann conceptualizes, designs, paints, and maintains these beautiful, historical murals.

Memorial Garden in Lee Newton Park

KPB established a Memorial ~ Honorary Garden in 2002, located at the Chamber of Commerce Building in Lee Newton Park. The garden is near the picnic area and provides quiet, serene place to relax and reflect on your surroundings. Trees and shrubs have been planted in honor or memory of loved ones and a marble plaque reflects the name of the person. That same year, KPB erected a Pergola and placed benches in the garden area.

In 2015, the Memorial Garden was redesigned and the plaques were relocated to the new seating area.

KPB has also sponsored other park improvements and cleanups

KPB Office Facelift

The KPB office got a face lift in 2009. With the help of board members, fresh paint, a new roof, a fence, and a pergola with seating were added.  This undertaking was a success thanks to the community-improvement efforts of KPB, the City of Jasper, and donations from Home Depot and Lee Dunn. With some teamwork, this corner of Main Street was transformed!
