Do you have an old tube-style TV cluttering up your garage or basement? Join Keep Pickens Beautiful on Saturday, August 19 from 9am-1pm at the Pickens Recycling Center on Appalachian Court to recycle it.
Those old tube-style TVs and monitors contain toxic chemicals, so it’s really important to keep them out of landfills, and more importantly, off of the roadsides and out of the woods. The biggest concern is lead – there is lead in the tube, and lead was used as solder on the boards. If the TVs are dumped in landfills or in the woods, that lead will leach into the ground, and eventually into the ground water.
Why is lead bad? According to the EPA, even low levels of lead in children can result in behavior and learning problems, lower IQ and hyperactivity, slowed growth, hearing problems, and anemia. In pregnant women, it can lead to reduced fetus growth and premature birth. And in adults, it can lead to cardiovascular issues, decreased kidney function, and reproductive problems.
So let’s all do our part – recycle your Retro TV with KPB!
Recycling those old monitors is not an easy task. KPB has partnered with Novus Solutions out of Atlanta to handle the job. They do charge per pound, but KPB is going to subsidize the cost because we want to do all we can to make it easy and affordable for you to do the right thing.
The TVs and monitors will be divided based on size and suggested donations are listed. However, if you are unable to pay the suggested rate, please still bring your TV, and we will help.
Small – up to 50 pounds – $10.00
Medium – 50-100 pounds – $15.00
Large – 100-200 pounds – $20.00
Extra Large – more than 200 pounds – $40.00
TVs and monitors must be complete and intact. Broken units will not be accepted.
