We’re looking for historical items that can be used as containers in our Edible Pickens gardens
Must have a story – could be anything from the history of what the item is to a narrative of what their family used the item for. We’ll add signage to each item in the gardens. Examples – agricultural items, boilers or other parts of moonshine stills, items from the marble quarries. We’re open to anything historical with a focus on being from Pickens or Appalachia, as long as it’s large enough but not too large, and durable enough to withstand the outdoors.
No wood – just stone, marble, metal, etc… materials that won’t degrade too quickly because they’ll be outside and in contact with soil, moisture, and plants.
If they’re not completely water or soil tight, we can put a pot or a liner in it to hold the soil and plant.
Must be able to hold a minimum of 5 gallons of soil, but 10-15 gallons is preferred.
Donated items are appreciated, but if it’s really awesome and priced affordably, it may be considered.
The Edible Pickens initiative expands the sustainable and environmentally responsible actions already happening in our community. KPB wants to help grow this into an identity for Pickens County – an identity as a forward-thinking community that cares about the environment and its citizens. Edible Pickens compliments our state-of-the-art recycling center, farm-to-table restaurants, farmers markets, and more.
